Albany, New – October Domestic Violence Awareness Month. As part of that celebration, on Thursday, October 22, it was announced: “Wear a purple robe.”
To mark the occasion, Governor Andrew Kumo ordered government signs to be painted purple this evening.
“In this step, we will shed light on the epidemic of domestic violence to show support for the victims and their families,” he said. Unprecedented challenges to the COVID-19 epidemic have increased the stigma attached to survivors, but New York continues to struggle to bring domestic violence perpetrators to justice and protect the most vulnerable among us.
Places that will turn purple tonight include the following.
New York State Domestic and Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-942-6906 or 844-997-2121 or @ opdv.ny.gov. To list the domestic power lines in the county to New York State Domestic Violence Index.
