Chromebooks are very common these days and can grow on trees. There are a few Chromeboxes – small form desktop computers running Chrome OS – but Asu has updated the Chromeboxes line. Just announced the follow-up to the 2018 Crowbox 3. It can be called Chromebox 4. The device starts at just $ 289 and comes with a choice of Intel CPUs, including 10th Gen Gen Core chips.

You may not be able to tell the new Krobox 4 from Chromebox 3 at a glance – both are non-removable blackboards (5.85 x 5.85 x 1.58 inches) with the Aussie logo in the middle. This is not surprising, though, because Value is the name of the game in Chromeboxes. You can get a Chromebook with sliding design and additional features, but the displays add a lot to the cost. A crocodile captures any controller you find around you and often offers more ports and better thermos than a Chromebook.

The base model Krobox 4 has a more powerful Intel 5205U Celeron CPU than you can find in a similarly priced Chromebook (remember your own screen, keyboard and mouse). You can also upgrade to Core i3-10110U, i5-10210U or i7-10510U. Although the i7 is probably too big for Chromebox. The base model starts at 4 GB, which is good for light workloads. 8GB is also an option, and it’s a place where you want to be anything more than a few browser tabs.

One of the benefits of having Chromebox is that you get more ports than today’s average (or even higher) laptops. You will get two HDMI ports, as well as a USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 port that runs on power supply and DisplayPort. That means you can connect three monitors to Chromebox 4, and it supports up to 4K resolution. There are also five USB-A ports, including two on the USB 3.2 Gen 2 list. There is even support for Wi-Fi 6.

Like other small form factor PCs, new users expect to install Chromebox 4 on the back of the monitor. That’s why it comes with a mounting bracket that is compatible with a new VESA that can lock the computer on the controller, raising its legs and lowering it. Asu expects to start selling Chromebox 4 in North America starting next month.
